Cardboard Boat Race

Saturday ~ September 1, 2018

Registration starts at 9am Race starts at 11am

The Coast Guard auxiliary, Englewood Flotilla 87 is the host of Cardboard Boat Race! For years the  Auxiliary has participated operating the first aid Safety booth, and additionally has distributed life jackets to the participants who needed them.

This year they take a larger role,

and will organize the event!

Cardboard Boats are built from boxes, rug tubes, sona-tubes and all things cardboard. They are piloted by the builders and participants, and need to float to complete the course on Lemon Bay.

Note: You can't build a cardboard boat overnight.

So if you are planning to join us,

it's time to get underway.

Participants range from kids (and their parents)  to fun loving adults to local businesses. Paint the name of your business on the boat for an advertising opportunity. The goal is to build a sea-worthy vessel from ordinary cardboard, decorate it in any way that you choose, and then paddle or sail it

through a course just off the southern tip of

Indian Mound Park.

The event kicks off Saturday morning at 9AM and the racing starts at 11AM.

Two  build-a-boat workshops (time and location will be announced soon) with tips for building, plans, material requirements, decorating, and construction ideas and demonstration of how to make a simple boat from used cardboard.

Registration can be done on the website or the morning of the race. See the website link above. Wear your company t-shirt and show some pride!

Get your team together -- get some T-shirts --

build your boat and join the fun!

It all starts at 9am at Indian Mound Park.

See you there!
